Governor's Visit.

The Governor, with Lady Glasgow, family, and suite, arrived in Queens town on Thursday afternoon last. His Excellency was met on board by the Mayor (Mr F. St. Omer) who escorted the vice-regal party on to the jetty, where the borough councillors were assembled. The Town Olerk (Mr F. W. F. Geisow) then read the following welcome address : To His Excellency, The Right Honorable David, Earl of Glasgow, Governor of New Zealand, May is please Your Excellency. The Mayor and councillors on our own behalf as well as in the name and on behalf of tho burgesses of the Borough of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipn, respectfully approach Your Excellency on his, as well as on Lady Glasgow and their family’s first visit to this district, with the assurance of our devoted loyalty to Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen apd her representative. Wo feel sure that Your Excellency, as well as Lady Glasgow, vy ill enjoy and carry away a favorable impression of the beautiful and grand scenery of our district. Tending Your Excellency and family our heartfelt welcome to the Lake Wakatipu District.—We beg to subscribe ourselves, Your Excellency’s obedient servants, F. St. OsfKR, Mayor. His Excellency, in reply, said he had to thank them on behalf of Lady Glasgow, family, and himself, for the loyal and hearty welcome they had* been accorded on their first visit to the beautiful town. It gave them much pleasure to visit Lake Wakatipu. They would carry away many pleasant memories of the beauties of the Lake and its scenery. The party then passed through a large number of school children who had been arranged in row's on each side of the jetty, the Queenstown Brass Band playing the National Anthem. The Mayor then escorted the party to Eichardt’s Hotel. A large congregation of townspeople were present. The young ladies of the party seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, boating and driving. The Governor and party left on Monday for the Head of the Lake and return on Thursday.— Own Correspondent.
