TRUCK SHORTAGE

RAILAGE OF MANURES. FARMERS' UNION DISCUSSION. Suggestions that representations should be made to the Railways Department regarding the shortage of rolling stock for the conveyance of manure, were discussed at the monthly meeting of the Farmers' Union at Hamilton, when a letter on the subject was received from the Te Awamutu branch of the Union. The letter also stated that a suggestion should be made to the Department that another cruising engine should be put on the line between Frankton and Te Kuiti to collect the empty trucks more quickly. The president of the executive, Mr. G. T. Crawley, presided.

Speaking to the motion, Mr. W. Neill, of Te Awamutu, stated that in h number of cases the delivery of goods and manures was about a month behind schedule, owing to the shortage of railway trucks. If a cruising engine were run betweeen Frankton and Te Kuiti to collect empty trucks, practically a full train of trucks would probably be collected on most evenings. If these were available the work of the farmer would be greatly facilitated.

The speaker's remarks were endorsed by Mr. C. J. Flay, who also stated that recently the delivery of his manure was several weeks behind time, owing to the shortage of trucks. It was decided to make representations to the Railway Department on the lines suggested by the Te Awamutu branch.
