WAITOMO POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Waitomo Power Board was held on Monday at Te Kuiti. The full Board was present, Messrs. V. W. Simms (chairman), E. T. Gorton, W. Bluck, T. M. O’Connell, W. A. Lee and J. N. Boddie, also the secretary, Mr. W. F. Seeker, and the engineer, Mr. N. A. Davidson. The Public Works Department, Wellington, forwarded a copy of the proclamation of the outer area transferred to the Te Awamutu Power Board as the result of the recent adjustment of boundaries. The transfer was approved. The engineer reported that an enquiry had been received from the Te Kuiti Borough Council for the hire of apparatus for the motor camp in Te Kuiti. The installation of heating apparatus for water and cooking equipment had been tentatively suggested. The engineer undertook to co-operate with the Council in this matter. After some discussion the Board decided to obtain prices for the replacement of one of its half-ton trucks. The vehicles had only done 30,000 miles, but the Board in considering the matter took cognisance of the benefits of trading in one of its six vehicles each year. Two Rangiatea settlers enquired for power. Their application was approved providing that guarantees totalling £45 were signed. Another enquiry was from a farmer on the main highway near Otorohanga. The engineer was instructed to report on alternative routes from the dairy factory, or by extending the high tension line from the Te Kawa sub-station, which would eventually form a ring-feeder between Hangatiki and Otorohanga, and supply other settlers. A renewed enquiry from the Waitomo Valley Road was received. The engineer was instructed to investigate, Mr Lee commenting that a lead from the line mentioned above would probably be the best to supply this road.

Schemes for the pushing of electric lamp sales and of radiator sales were reported on by the secretary, and the reports were adopted by the Board. The object was to increase the domestic load.

Messrs. Simms, Lee and Cato were appointed to represent the Board at the conference on the Amalgamation fill to be held in Hamilton.
