Tension developed • in Shanghai after a Japanese marine, Hideo Makayama, had been shot down from behind, allegedly by a Chinese civilian, who escaped. A representative of the General Staff of the Japanese Expeditionary Corps visited the Mayor of Shanghai and said measures would be taken if the Chinese investigations into the murder bore no results. The gunboat Ataka is to be sent from Tokoyo to Shanghai.
