DISTRICT NEWS

ARIA FAREWELL PARTY. (Own Correspondent). On Thursday evening the settlers on the Totoro and Rotopataka Roads congregated at Mr. W. McGregor's house to make their farewells to him and his family and to make him a presentation as a small token of their esteem. During the few years Mr. McGregor has been there he has made a place for himself in the hearts of his neighbours that might make many people envious, and he is one of those settlers no district Can afford to lose. A sound farmer, a judge of stock, and a hard worker, he is a man of the highest integrity and always ready to go out of his way to help his neighbour, even at expense to himself. On behalf of the local settlers Mrs. R. W. Moore presented Mr. and Mrs. McGregor with a kettle and a nest of saucepans. Messrs. John Buntain, J.P., and Harry Sharpies also spoke in praise of Mr. McGregor as a man and a neighbour, and all wished him the great success in his new venture that his fine upright character deserved. Mr. McGregor suitably replied a'nd tha'nked everyone for what had been said on their behalf. The gathering then set out to enjoy itself in the way that is only known to backblock settlers.
