THE TRADE DELEGATION

MESSRS. COATES AND MASTERS. ENTERTAINED IN MELBOURNE. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 12.30 p.m.) Melbourne, this clay. Regret that the New Zealand Ministerial trade delegation was unable to achieve the object of its mission was expressed at a function arranged for the entertainment of the delegates by the New Zealand Association of Melbourne. The chairman, Mr. L. L. Beeson, said Australia missed something worth while when she denied herself New Zealand potatoes. Mr. Beeson added that the New Zealand Association is proposing to institute a drive for relief funds for the flood victims.

Mr. Coates said the visit was disappointing, but the conference ended with the utmost goodwill on both sides.

He added that things were improving in New Zealand, and this year a Government surplus was expected. With a reasonable opportunity for New Zealand exports, the load of taxation would be lightened. New Zealand was glad of the proximity of Australia because in times of stress many Australian exports were very necessary.
