Independent members of the House of Representatives are showing great reticence concerning their reported association with the' Democrat party. In only one instance has one of them—Mr. H. M. Rushworth—admitted any conversation with the leaders of the new organisation, and he said the conversations were purely of an explanatory nature, into the principles and policy of the party.
