STOCKING OF STREAMS

GOOD RESULTS NOTED. The results of the stocking of the rivers in the district by the Rod and Gun Clubs has been noticed by anglers this season. One keen fisherman, remarking on this fact, instanced the Mangahoe and Cole's streams —whereas formerly there were no trout in these streams, now both were full of small fish. The rain of the past week has militated against the sport, and no "fishermen's tales" seem to be going the rounds. All the same, the obtaining of no less than thirty fish from the MangaokeWa by one sportsman during last week should certainly show that there is no lack of trout. This bag was made by Mr. B. G. Drake, and though the fish were certainly on the small side, he said the local river was swarming with them. The same fisherman, accompanied by Mr. K. Blackman, tried the upper Waimiha about Tiroa during the week-end, obtaining in all eight good sized trout for the day. : Other sportsmen also report fair ' bags.
