DUKE OF GLOUCESTER

VISIT TO TE KUITI DESIRED.

BREAKING JOURNEY TO NATIONAL PARK.

The suggestion that a visit of about an hour's duration should be made by the Duke of Gloucester to Te Kuiti and Taumarunui was made by Cr. O'Connell at the Borough Council meeting last evening. He pointed out that the Duke would visit the Waitomo Caves on the evening of 29th December, then passed through Te Kuiti and Taumarunui at night en route to National Park, where he was to spend three days. Cr. O'Connell suggested that the Duke might stay at the Caves for the night, meet the people of Te Kuiti the following morning*, then continuing on to Taumarunui on his way to National Park.

This would only mean that the Duke would arrive at the National Park in the afternoon instead of the early morning—he was an ambassador of Empire, and the meeting of the people of the King Country towns, especially the children, should be more important than a day's skiing.

It was decided to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs to see if the Duke of Gloucester's itinerary could be altered in this manner; also to get in communication with the Taumarunui Borough Council for their co-operation.
