SAVING OF FUEL.

ADVICE TO DRIVERS. The following seven points are made by an American in giving advice to drivers on how to save pet-

rol. They are reprinted here not as petrol savers, but as excellent precepts from the point of view of national driving in its wider aspects. 1. Don't race the other fellow away from traffic lights. 2. Hold a steady pace when your car has reached the desired speed. Don't allow your speed to drop to 20 or 30 miles and then accelerate rapidly to 50. 3. Never race your engine when the car is standing still. Many motorists have the habit of stepping on the accelerator when the car is stopped just to assure themselves that the engine is turning over. 4. Shut off your engine every time you stop your car for longer thr„n a minute. 5. Drive your car at moderate speeds. Engineers have discovered that you secure more miles per gallon between 20 and 30 miles an hour, unless your car is equipped with an overdrive to reduce engine speed at high car speeds.

7. Make sure that your car i« properly lubricated. Cheap lubricants add to fuel consumption.
