PICTURE PROGRAMMES.

(To the Editor). Sir, —For some months past we have been favoured with excellent progammes at the new State Theatre, Te Kuiti. On Thursday evening last, the presentation of "Berkeley Square" was very much appreciated by an exceptionally large audience. The acting of Leslie Howard and Heather Angel is certainly of an extremely high order, and is possibly the very best that has yet been produced in England. As a regular patron, I wish to protest against the very thoughtless habits of a certain section of the public. The enjoyment of Thursday evening's programme was marred by a number of people, who appeared not to have the intellect to appreciate the finer points of the picture. They tittered and laughed, and made it impossible to catch the dialogue in portions of the picture which were in no way meant to be humorous. And again the freque'nt resort to refreshment and crunching of sweets during such a wonderful performance is a distinct annoyance to a great many people. Would it not be possible for people to enjoy their refreshment during the interval, and not more or less continually annoy their neighbours by fumbling with bags and extracting sweets all through the performance? These complaints refer to occupants of the plush tip-ups, and not particularly to the cheaper seats. I trust this complaint will bear fruit, as we are certainly extremely fortunate at the present time in obtaining such a succession of excellent programmes.—l am, etc., "THEATRE-GOER."
