TENNIS OPENING

ST. ANDREW'S COURTS. The opening of the St. Andrew's courts was held this afternoon, splendid weather prevailing in spite of the threatening conditions earlier in the day. The courts were in splendid order, the surface being very firm and even. The opening was performed by the president of the Club, Mr. Jas. Henderson. In declaring them open for play he extended a hearty welcome to the visitors —there were representatives of the Te Kuiti, Railway and Methodist Clubs present, also players from Otorohanga. He announced that Mrs. J. McKenzie had kindly donated a trophy for the most improved lady player. He then called upon Mrs. J. Thornton to play the first ball. . . A very successful season is anticipated by club members, especially as a very good membership has been obtained.

Another tennis opening ceremony being held to-day is that of the Hangatiki Club, while all other summer sports bodies will be opening in the next few weeks.
