FRUIT FOR HEALTH.

Have an apple every morning before breakfast! My grandfather lived until he was 89, when someone asked him the secret of old-age, he always said, with a smile, "An apple every morning before I am sufficiently awake to peel it properly!" says an English writer. Have a banana at 11 o'clock! It's worth a dozen cups of tea! Have an orange when you're really thirsty! An orange after lunch is good for the digestion! Treat tomatoes as fruit, and eat them as you would apples, first carefully peeling the skin, and biting into them! Encourage your children to do the same.

Eat plenty of stewed fruit! Don't be like the woman who said: "I've got so much fruit in the garden, I don't know what to do with it! Will you have some more suet pudding?" Buy peaches when they are cheap, and serve them up on Sunday afternoon. The children —even the big child who pays the bills and is called "Father"—will love them! Eat all the fruit you can! Get the idea out of your head that it is a luxury. It is when you have to pay three shillings for a small bunch of grapes, but not as a general rule when home-grown fruit is cheap and plentiI ful!
