WAITANGURU
(Own Correspondent.) The fancy dress dance and concert held in Waitanguru on Friday evening was a great success. The hall was crowded and the children had a right royal time. The weather was most kind and helped to maintain the enjoyment of all. The dance was a huge success, and financially too. The prizes for fancy dresses were donated by Mesdames Verry, Lowman, Eonaldson, Peterson, and Messrs. Daniel and Ashworth. The prize costumes were as follows:—Tinv tots, Baby Honor, "Japanese Lady"; most original costume for boys, Stanley Neal, "Sylvia Starch"; girls over 8 years, Ida Voyce, "Eastern Lady"; boys over 8 years, Ivan Peterson, "Dick Whittington; girls under 8 years, Edith Amner, "Oranges and Lemons"; boy under 8 years, Stanley Neal, "Sylvia Starch"; musical flop competition, Jean Lowrie; running * on donkey's tail, Murry Sales; bottle competition, Ed. Buckley; Monte Carlo, Miss J. Neal and Mr. R. Dew. Miss June Brier gave a recitation. Miss Frances Field, step dancing. The musicians for the dances were Rev. Mears, and Messrs. Ashworth and Alex. Peterson. In addition to the prize-winners the following were also in fancy costume: —Rosemary Ashworth, Indian Squaw; Murray Neal, Cowboy; Mary Were, Peasant Girl; June Brier, "Miss Muffett"; Beryl Sale, Fairy; David Elston, Red Indian; Gladys Higginson, Snowdrop; Tom Lowrie, Peter Pan; Ron Harwood, Black and White Folly; Margaret Elston, Powder Puff; Betty Elston, Can-ots; Leila Harwood, a window; Betty Ronaldson, Countess; Peggy Ronaldson, Victorian Lady; Keith Low, Dutchman; Margaret Were, Hawaiian Girl; Ron Brier, Sailor; Mervyn Peterson, Russian Artist; Bernard Peterson, "Tennis"; Stan. Peterson, Mexican Boy; Will Lowrie, Pirate; Murray Sale, Dutch Boy; Rolf Sales, Pirate; Eric Lowman, Cowboy; John Frederikson, Elf; lan McPherson, Pierette; Eric Osborne, Highlander; Harry Honor, Red Indian; Frances Field and Jean Lowrie, Island Belles. Nearly 50 children had a delightful supper of jellies and meringues, etc., and enjoyed a game of "Jolly Miller." They also enjoyed some dances with the grown-ups.
