Detectives who raided a house in Alexandria found in a dugout beneath the building a complete coining- plant. An engineer was arrested with 2000 counterfeit coins in his possession. A committee representing over fifty inter-State organisations expressed disappointment at the proposed reduction in the Federal Land Tax. The total abolition is considered to to be the only remedy. The employees of the bacon curing works of two Ballarat firms struck because their employers refused a 10s. weekly increase in their wages. A meeting of employers decided to close all their works in the State immediately, thus making idle 500 men.
