“Sidetrack centralisation,” said Mr. A. M. Loewenthal, of the A.M.P. Society, Sydney, who was visiting' "Wanganui during last week. “Distribute your population as much as possible. In New South Wales we haven’t the same number of important provincial cities as you have in New Zealand, and it is one of our distinct disadvantages. New Zealand is better off in that respect, for we have a million and a quarter people in our o'ne large city.” The Herald reporter mentioned that centralisation was in the air in the Dominion at present, whereupon Mr. Loewenthal remarked: “I think they are looking through the wrong end of the telescope. One big city becomes an octopus.”
