BRAVERY IN FIRE

TYPIST OVERCOME BY SMOKE.

Returning to work overtime at the office adjoining the warehouse of Messrs. J. Walker and Co., iron and steel merchants, of Fletcher Street, Bolton, England, recently, Miss Marjorie Randall, a 24-year-old typist, found the place ablaze. After two unsuccessful attempts she pluckily fought her way through the flames and smoke to the telephone in a'n inner office. She had just time to lift the receiver and give the alarm when she found herself being overcome by the smoke. She staggered to the door of the building, where she collapsed and was found unconscious by two men who were attracted by the smoke from the burning roof. After medical attention she recovered sufficiently to be taken home. The firemen succeeded in saving the greater part of the warehouse, where there are many thousands of pounds worth of stock, but the office part of the building was gutted, and valuable account-books and documents were destroyed.
