N.Z. BUTTER IN ENGLAND

MORE POPULAR THAN EVER.

WHEY BUTTER COMPETITION.

Prior to journeying South, Mr. A. W. Heyes, who has been in Hawera for some time, gave a representative of the Taranaki News a short resume of conditions at Home concerning dairy produce. Mr. Heyes, who occupies a high postion in the produce world in England, is engaging in his third visit to the Dominion on behalf of his firm, Messrs. H. A. Lane and Co., Ltd. New Zealand butter, he says, is more popular than ever. The wonderful keeping qualities of the butter more than offsets the comments sometimes passed of somewhat insipid flavour, and until such time full flavour can be produced without loss of keeping properties the present standard of finest grade will ensure the maintenance of its popularity. Mr. Heyes believes whey butter does not conflict with the interests of creamery butter. The number of grocers who would attempt to palm it off on the public as finest New Zealand creamery must be negligible, if indeed there are any at all who would be so stupid, as to r*uin a reputation for quality by attempting to do so; certainly no one could build a reputation on it. There is a perfectly legitimate outlet for whey butter, and although the ideal would be one quality only, and that the best, in these days of stress we have got to consider the practical side of things. Meantime Australia exports four grades, viz., kangaroo, first, second, and pastry, much as she would like to confine herself to kangaroo only. New Zealand eggs are.most popular in London. Importers cannot get enough of them, more particularly throughout October, November and December, but the point is, can New Zealand afford to produce them on a competitive basis permitting export?
