SOUTHEND TO HAVE A NEW PIER
WILL TAKE TWO YEARS TO BUILD. Southend, the popular and wellknown picnicking resort of Londoners, is to have another pier, states an English exchange. Plans for a £400,000 structure on the Western Esplanade have been prepared, and a scheme which .is organised by a London syndicate will include a Lido bathing pool, sunshine lounges, concert hall and amusement deck, children's boating and bathing pools. A start is to be made on the structure early next year. It will take two years to complete, and will employ about 2500 men. The pier will be about 800 yards long and from 80 to 250 feet wide.
