The death is announced of Lady. Ranfurly, the wife of Earl Ranfurly, a former Governor-General of New Zealand, 1897-1904. Lady Ranfurly was formerly the Hon. Constance Elizabeth Caulfield and was married in 1880. The Oparure supporters of the Toko Football Club are organising a dance to be held in the Oparure Hall on Saturday, July 30. The proceeds will be in aid of "Bully" Wallace, who sustainued a broken leg while playing in the Maniapoto-Otorohanga representative match some weeks ago. At last night's meeting of the Maniapoto Rugby Sub-Union, the secretary, Mr. B. Harker, tendered his resignation, as he was leaving the district. He stated it was with sincere regret that he did so, for his work as secretary of the Union had been most congenial. The president, Mr. W. Copsey, expressed his deep regret that the Union was losing the services of Mr. Harker. For several years now Mr. Harker had been secretary, and in that period had done a great deal of useful work for the Union. Several delegates spoke in a like strain, being keenly appreciar tive of the good work Mr. Harker had done. Mr. Stanley Wilson was appointed secretary in Mr. Harker's stead.
