BUTTER INDUSTRY

SOUTH ISLAND FACTORIES.

REPRESENTATIVES MEET. A representative meeting of all South Island butter factories was held at Timaru last week, Mr. J. Fisher, Southland, presiding. After discussion on the needs of the industry it was decided, in order to reduce costs and enable industry to meet the altered economic conditions, that each district be asked to consider plans for the amalgamation of all butter factories in the area.

The meeting was unanimously of the opinion that the dairy industry should have a special representative at the Ottawa Conference, and endorsed the Dairy Board's decision that Mr. W. Goodfellow should be the representative of the industry, as he is the oustanding personality in the industry to-day, and his knowledge of overseas marketing conditions is unrivalled.
