HOWARD SHIELD COMPETITION. TAUMARUNUFS CLUB'S SUCCESS On Saturday the Taumarunui Tennis Club, after a very keen and interesting contest, annexed the Howard Shield from Te Kuiti by 7 matches to 4, or 16 sets to 11 sets. Previous to this match Te Kuiti has held the Shield for three years—winning it from Taumarunui in 1928. After the match Mr. Tate, as president of the Te Kuiti Club, handed the shield over to the Taumarunui team and congratulated them on their performance. It was also intimated that Te Kuiti would make an early bid to regain the shield next season. Mr. Doreen suitably replied, and cheers were called for both the winners and the vanquished

METHODIST COURT PLAY.

FOR MR. DOBSON'S TROPHY.

A ladies' handicap singles tennis ; tournament was held on the Te Kuiti Methodist Church Court on Saturday. The tournament was fora a trophy generously donated by Mr. H. Dobson, one of the club's vice-presi-dents. The handicappers. had a very difficult task allocating the handicaps and the tournament proved a triumph for them, as some very close games were witnessed. There was not a Very good attendance of visitors, but a very enjoyable afternoon was spent by all. The results were as follows:

First Round: M. Coventry (30) defeated I. Dean (35), 51—47; R. Perry (28) defeated P. Dean (20), 51—34; N. Hill (25) defeated E. Walker (20), 51—46; V. Bowick (25) defeated M. Banfield (10), 51—44; L. Perry (7) defeated O. Coventry (7), 51—38; M. Webber (30) defeated L. Walker (scr.), 51—28.

Second Round: N. Hill (15) defeated R.* Perry (28), 51—44; L. Perry (7) defeated V. Bowick (25), 51—43; M. Webber defeated M. Coventry by default. Semi-Final: M. Webber (30) defeated N. Hill (15), 56—54. Final: L. Perry (7) defeated M. Webber (30), 51—48. Miss L. Perry thus holds Mr. DobJ son's trophy for one year.

TE KUMI v. OPARURE.

The following matches were played between between the Te Kumi and Oparure Tennis Clubs on Saturday, Te Kumi winning by 8 sets to 5. The Te Kumi names are mentioned first.
