MACHINE GUN PRACTICE.

Sir, —As a member of this community, who, like many others, looks forward during the week-end. to a respite from the noise and turmoil associated with everyday activities, I respectfully beg to draw attention to what I consider a public nuisance. I refer to the occurrence on Sunday last, when the rattle of machine-gun fire could be heard in almost every part of the borough during the practice of the local territorials. This continued almost incessantly for the greater part of the day, and I make bold to say that

I am not alone in my condemnation of such machine-gun practices being held on Sundays. Surely, now that the territorials are on a volunteer basis, it could be possible to arrange these practices on a week-day, instead of disturbing the people on the only day on which they can secure a little rest and quietness. —I am, etc., FAIR PLAY.
