"The Waikato could certainly not stand the droughts from which Central Hawke's Bay suffers," said a Waipawa farmer, on a visit to Hamilton. "They are awful, and this summer has not been excepted from the customary blazing heat. Water has been scarce not only for the needs of stock but also for household requirements, while as a result of the incessant hot weather natural fodder has been in a poor condition."
