As everyone knows, the farmer is at present going through a difficult period, low prices and a reduced demand for his produce making it hard for him to pay his way. The position is reflected in the operations of the Canterbury Land Board to a noticeable extent (states the Press) for at the end of March 31 last no less a sum than £125,000 in round figures was outstanding in rents, equivalent 'to about one-fitfh of the total sum collectable. In view of the present state of the markets, it does not appear that the board will be able to report a happier position at the end of the current financial year.
