BREAKING SPEED RECORD

TO BE ATTEMPTED IN N.Z. BY MR. NORMAN SMITH. (Press Association—Copyright.) (Received 11.15 a.m.) Sydney, this day. Mr. H. J. Butcher, of the Auckland Automobile Association, is visiting Sydney for the purpose of making final arrangements for Mr. Norman Smith’s attempt at a speed record in New Zealand. Mr. Butcher is procuring extra timing switches to enable sectional times to be taken, as Mr. Smith intends not only to attack the mile and kilometre records, but will essay a break of the five and ten-mile records. He stated to-day that he is confident of achieving a speed of 250 miles per hour.
