DETONATOR EXPLODES

CONTRACTOR INJURED.

FINGERS AMPUTATED, As the result of a detonator which he was about to place in the charge, exploding, Mr. J. Woods, contractor, of Pio Pio, sustained serious injury to his left hand this morning. He was brought on to Te Kuiti and attended to by Dr. Isaac and sent to the hospital, where it was iound necessary to amputate the fifth and fourth and part of the third fingers. The palm of the hand was also badly injured.

The accident occurred in a quarry at Pio Pio when a charge was being placed to remove an overhanging rock.
