“REDS" FRUSTRATED
IN CHINESE QUARTERS OF HONGKONG. SMART WORK BY POLICE. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 10.50 a.m.) Hongkong, December 12. Smart police work in the heart of the Hongkong Chinese quarter effectively stopped a “Red” rising. Following the murder of a Chinese detective, the police discovered a plot for a “Red” rising, starting in a Chinese hotel. Unknown to the “Reds” detectives were disguised as waiti’esses whilst in the streets, mingled with the crowds, were hundreds of detectives disguised as beggars, hawkers, etc. The police had information that the signal for the rising was a bomb hurled from the roof.of the hotel. Immediately the bomb was thrown the disguised detectives drew concealed weapons and one hundred unifoi’med officers also appeared and formed a cordon, arresting twenty dangerous armed agitators, who were completely surprised. Not a shot was fired.
