The Chinese armies on all fronts n Manchuria are being strengthened in anticipation of an attack- by the Soviet troops. To-morrow is the anniversary of the birth of the Soviet Republic and a general Soviet drive is expected. _ Apart from sporadic fighting in a small area, the general position is quiet, though Soviet aeroplanes continue to fly over the China defence lines, dropping bombs and destroying railway tracks and depots. ' The German Consul at Harbin reports that two thousand Chinese prisoners detained by tbe Soviet authorities are starving and are without winter clothing, and lias requested the Chinese National Government to send immediate relief, the Consul undertaking the distribution, otherwise hundreds are likely to perish.
