PIO PIO.

(Own Correspondent.) The Pio Pio Tennis Club's season was declared open on Labour Day by Mr Neeley, on behalf of Mr Nicholas, president, who is at present! away on holiday leave, and the first ball was served by Mrs Nicholas. The sky was overcast at times, but little rain fell, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent by the many players and their friends. Afternoon tea was provided and mixed play was seen on the courts until a late hour. The Pio Pio Tennis Club held a most successful dance in the Town Hall on Wednesday, 30th inst. The hall was gaily decorated with streamers, red and black (the club's colours —and nikau palms. Excellent musio was provided by the Te Kuiti trioMiss R. Hogan (piano), Captain Stanley (violin), and Mr P. O'Rorke (saxophone)- Mr Hempleman successfully carried out| the duties of M.C. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss A. Fisher and Mr T. Griffin, Amongst those present were:—Mesdames Webb, handsome cinnamon crepe de chine; Nicholas, grey crepe de chine, red posy; Andrews, brown georgette; Tucker, black taffeta; Dr. Eva Hill, black velvet and fur. Misses I. MacKenzie, black georgtette; J. Gould, floral georgette; M. Gould, apricot crepe de chine; E. MacKenzie, mauve embossed georgette; M. Bond, black taffeta and shawl; Wainwrightl, cherry crepe de chine; J. Boddy, green crepe de chine; Jones (Te Kuiti), salmon pink embossed georgette; Fyfe (Te Kuiti), pink taffeta; M. MacDonald, cerise crepe de chine; Slynes, mauve crepe de chine; R,. Fisher, black spotted net; M. Griffin ,mauve crepe de chine; Andrews, mauve beaded gfeorgete; Dennison, pink georgette] Petersen, floral rayon; V. Webb, white rayon, red shawl; Leamon, black crepe de chine J Armstrong, green satin and lace; Roberts, blaok satlin and lace; A. Riddle, green crepe de chine; O. Neeley, flame velvet; F. Williams, pink taffeta and shawl; D. Williams, white crepe de chine.

Plunket Day was held on Thursday, 31st, The committee wish to express their thanks to all who so generously helped to make it a success, and to Mrs Allison for making the Plunket) badges. £lO lis 4d was the amount taken. The beautiful cake donated by Mrs R. Mcßae was allotted to Mrs Cayley-Alexander. The Women's Division held their social afternoon at the Rest Room on sale day. Afternoon tea was much appreciated by all, which was presided over by Mrs V. R. Smith, and Mrs F. Gould, of Waii ere. A children's fancy dress dance is to be held in the Town lall on November Bth. They have been practising dancing and have achieved a high standai-d of efficiency, and it will give pleasure to all who are present. Mrs Evans, accompanied by Mrs Robison and Master David Robison, left for New Plymouth on Friday, November Ist, to attend the High School sports, which were to be held on 2nd inst, Mr Watson driving them through in Mr Evans' car. Mrs R. Mcßae is spending the weekend in Auckland. The plans for the new Town Hall, to be put before the ratepayers shortly, are to be seen in the window of the Central Cash Sores.
