In acknowledging a presentation from newspaper representatives, Mr F. H. Claxton, the retiring chairman of the Thames Valley Power Board, said he had decided views upon the Press in relation to local body meetings. Although local -body meetings were concerning public business there were some things that must not be public, yet he was always averse to excluding the Press from any business taken in committee, and he was pleased to say that during his connection with the board he had found that the Press had never abused this privilege. He was also pleased to say that the reports in the respective papers had fairly represented the feelings expressed at the board meetings. By reporting the meetings correctly the Press was rendering a great service, as, even with meetings such as were suggested in connection with the forthcoming loan poll, they ronld not expect 'to come in contact with the whole of the ratepayers in the board's area.
