They produced ll,lßGlb. of butterfat, an average of 41411) each. Twentytwo of the cows gave an average of 47!>.filb. of fat in 320 days, While the best cow gave 0G6.59 lb. of fat in 310 days. The cows appeared to lie of very ordinary quality of mixed breeds, and cost their owner less than £lO each three years ago. The cows were run on 51 acres of river flats, must of which was in pasture. As supplementary feed they were fed on" eight acres of turnips, carrots, mangels, ■ and chou moullier. The land was of excellent quality and the pasture was topdressed with isjicwt. of superphosohate annually. Mr. Bell attriimtert the performance of the cows to the fact that they were well fed and well looked after. Note that the cows were of "very ordinary quality"; that they cost their owner less than £lO each; that the land was top-dressed with 2j£cwt. of Superphosphate annually, and that the farmer attribued the performance of the cows to the fact that they were "well fed." t This is yet another tribute to the enormous value, of Superphosphate as a fertiliser.
