LOCAL LABOUR PARTY.
OPENING OF NEW HALL.
The local branch of the N.Z. Labour Party held a very successful evening last uightt, the occasion being the opening of the new hall. There were about 300 present, and a very pleasant evening was spent in dancing and card playing, with a number of musical items.
(r W. J. Broadfoot was asked, to perform the opening ceremony, and in the course of his remarks advocated the necessity of providing wholesome and healthy recreation for all sections of the community, and congratulated the local branch on /their enterprise in securing sucli a fine hall. During the evening Mr Broadfoot presented the prizes for the euchre tournament held during the last quarter. The lady’s prize, a silver iteapot, was won by Mrs Stansfield. The gentleman’s prize, a pair of boots, was won by Air Nealis. During the evening musical items were given by Alessrs A. Hepburn and S. Griffiths (duets), and Edmonds, the Manga peek i comedian. The music was by Swift’s orchestra, while Air Mueller carried out the duties of M.C. in a very efficient manner. The supper was in the hands of the Ladies’ Social C'ltmmitrlee.
