POPPY DAY.
LOCAL OBSERVANCE. The local observance of Poppy Day will be held in Te Kuiti on Wednesday, the 15th, and Friday, 24th inst., and at Pio Pio on Thursday, 23rd inst. The flowers, which come from Villers Brettoneux and Albert, will be sold to provide funds for work for disabled and unemployed soldiers. In Te Kuiti the funds have been used on the beautifying of the river hank, the Borough Council subsidising the amount by 24s in the pound. The sale of the flowers is in the hands of the Mayoress (Mrs Rothery) and the committee of ladies set up for this
