A RUTHLESS WAR.

Kurdish rebels are obstinately resisting the Turkish armies of 300,000, which have not yet recaptured all the positions originally lost. The Turks are dealing ruthlessly with prisoners. A court-martial recently sentenced to death 21 persons. There has been sanguinary fighting on the borders of the disputed territiroy of Mosul, where British air squadrons and native troops are watching the Iraq frontier. It is wrongly alleged that the British are supporting the Kurds, and it is declared that the Kurds are using British rifles and machine-guns.

The Times’ Constantinople correspondent states that having quelled the Kurdish revolt, the Turkish Government is taking measures to prevent a repetition. It is stated that the Government intends to abolish the powers of the sheiks and the tribal system, dividing the country into a number of districts in which order will be maintained by permament bodies of troops. The police are compelling nomad tribes to settle in definite localities.
