TEAR GAS AND THE LAW.
USED IN SOCIETY'S CEASELESS WARFARE. Tear gas, the same noxious vapour that crept over no man's Jand in the World War a;ud turned whole regi< ments of able fighters into blubbering, weeping men, helpless to resist has been enlisted by society in its age-old fight against the enemies it has within itself, says the World Magazine. Tear gas is demonstraited to be the most efficient weapon . for subduing viciolus criminals, declare police officials. There is not a mob, they assert, tha.t will etand up against it. No criminal, no matter how desperate, can successfully combat it. Many cases aro on record where thugs and bandits have been quickly reduced to absolute and abject submission through its use.As a protector, tear gas willjbe numbered among the most effective modern methods in society's ceaseless warfare against ks human enemies. Devices are being successfully operated, which utilise it to guard valuables more securely than any other means. Banks throughout the United States are installing 'these appliances. The bank safes are equipped with gas jackets. These outer shells, containing lachrymatory fumes, nitust be pierced in fotrcing an entrance into the safe. Once released, these cases will render a bandit temporarily heirless, and so ensure his capture. These protecting devices are also being installed in jewellery stores and cashiers' cages in great industrial establishments.
