ARIA NOTES.

. (Own Correspondent.) The showery weather of late has been perfect for growth, although it has_ interfered with shearing and cropping. The solid week wo had of dry, warm weather helped immensely cropping preparations, especially the cultivation part in the rooting of weedsg; Sheepmen have done their best iff:-; getting their wool away for the first sale on December sth, encouraged to do so by the good prices obtained at the southern sales-, it would appear that the farmer is likely to receive a better return for his produce than lie has received for some time past, for besides wjo.'ii and'butter, mnjtton, lamb'and ev!en| heef ilook more healthy. As.land is only worth in direct ratio what it returns. we may expect a rising tendency in its value. Let us hope by the opening ,f new markets the more stable Government ait Home, and the settling of Kuropi'afl affairs, this may long continue. Everybody would share in this greater prosperity, for ih this young country the primary producer is the mainstay. The other evening the ladies' return ball to the bachelors took place in the Aria Hall. Tho room was beautifully decorated with ferns, balloons and streamers. The music was in the hands of Mr. H. Christian, whose execution was faultless. The supper was provided by nine 'ladies of the district, Mesdames Zadey, Roouey, and Oallen and Miss Aldersoin officiating during the evening. Misses M. Cullen and I. Keighley, assisted by Mr R. Telfar, condiuc/ted thb dancing. Miss E. Rooney performed her secretarial duties in a highly satisfactory manner. The dance was "Leap Year" until midnight, and the ladies left no stone unturned to show the men folk how to enterjtain. They are to be congratulated on not missing this opportunity, although the year is far advanced. Such an example is calculated to arouse the social enthusiasm of some of the all too bashful men.
