A further group of Canadian financiers in high positions have been sent to gaol in connection with the failure of the Home Bank. Charris Barnard, a millionaire Montreal Corporation lawyer, has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment for authorising false returns to the 'Government during the final two years of the bank's existence. Colonel Clarence Smith has been sentenced to one year's imprisonment and Sydney Jones, auditor, to four months. Ocean Smith, chief accountant, has had his sentence suspended because he gave the Government every assistance during the prosecution of the directors. The losses to depositors exceeded 3,000,000 dollars.
