King Country Chronicle Thursday, December 4, 1924. THE HOSPITAL.

It will be a matter of general regret to the people of this district to know that another deadlock has occurred in connection with the hospital. The position now is that unless the Waikato Hospital Board is prepared to give some financial assistance, the hospital is as much in the air as it has been the last six years. For this reason it is hard to understand why there should be any objection to sending a deputation to the next meeting of the Board. It is quite realised that the two representatives on the Board from this district are doing their utmost in the matter, and it is therefore no reflection on their efforts if representatives from the town and county councils were to attend the meeting and help them in placing before the Board their views as to the urgent necessity of establishing the hospital at as early a date as possible. Such a deputation would strengthen the hands of the local representatives in every way, and there would be no question of taking the matter out of their hands or overriding them. The members, of the Board are business men, and as such must realise the reasonableness of the request for assistance. It is now some six years since the hospital was first mooted; the people of the district responded liberally in the way of voluntary subscriptions towards the movement, while the three local bodies have found their quota, and are ready to hand it over when necessary. Unless the Board is prepared to help, the position will be serious so far as the hospital is concerned, for a critical stage has now been reached, and without active co-operation on all sides, and the strongest possible representations to the Board on this most vital matter, the whole movement will be seriously jeopardised. It would have been thought that, the local representatives would have welcomed the idea of the delegation, as there is no suggestion of antagonism, but simply to aid them in laying before the Board the true facts of the case.
