VIADUCT RESERVE.

DEAL TO BE CLINCHED. A copy of the proclamation empowering the Land Board to sell to the Te Kniti Borough Council the Mangaokowa scenic reserve, was received at the meeting of the Borough Council lost night. It ran as follows; Whereas by a Proclaimvtion published in the Gazette of the 25th day of April, 1912, the Mangaukcwa Gorge Scenic Reserve was taken for scenic purposes under the provisions of the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and the Publics Works Act, 1908: And whereas ft is desirable (that the portion of the said scenic reserve described in sub-section four hereof should he vested in the Corporation of the Borough of To Kniti as a site for a reservoir for the supply of the town of Te Kniti with yater, and far intake and other purposes in connection therewith : And whereas it is desired to sell to _t Ito said Corporation for limestone quarry purposes that pant of the said scenic reserve described in subsection 5 hereof: Be it therefore enacted as follows: (1) The reservation for scenic purposes over the land described in subsection 4 hereof is hereby cancelled, and the said land is hereby reserved for reservoir and water-supply purposes, and vested in the Corporation of the Borough of lie Kuiti in trust for such purposes. (2) The reservation for scenic purposes over the land described in subsection 5 is hereby cancelled, and the Auckland Land Board is hereby empowered io sell the said land to the aforesaid Corporation for the sum of five hundred pounds, payable to the Receiver of Land Revenue, Auckland, in such instalments, spread over a period of ten years, aoul at such times asthe Miister of Lands' may prescribe. On completion of the payment of the aforesaid amount ait- any time within the said period of ten years, the Gov-ernor-General may, by warrant under his hand, authorise (the issue of a certificate of title tor the said Corporation in respect of the said land. (3) In lieu of paying the aforesaid sum of five hundred pounds by instalments the Te Kuiti Borough Council may pay the amount in one sain, and for that purpose is hereby authorised to raise a special loan rtf .9500 under the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, by special order and without taking the steps prescribed in sections S to 12 thereof. The Mayor: il means we can raise a loan without a, poll. We have ten years to pay it in. Cr Broad fool pointed out that the proclamation gave the Land Board permission to sell to the Council and, that when the £SOO was paid ‘Obey may issue a title.”
