A FATAL BLOW.
FARMER KILLED BY NEIGHBOUR PLEA OF SELF DEFENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Gore, this day. A meeting near Gore between two farmers, neighbours in the Ferndale district, last night, had fatal consequences, Donald Cameron losing his life in a fracas which developed later. John Junor met Cameron, whom he states, was the worse for liquor, and the two had a few drinks. A dispute developed over the question of coming to Gore, Junor, in a statement to the police, saying that Cameron issued a threat that he would thrash Junor for not obeying him. Blows were exchanged, and Junor in self defence struck Cameron pretty hard twice, Cameron falling on the road. Cameron rose again and rushed Junor, who defended himself by striking again. . Cameron then fell on the metalled road and did not rise again. The assistance of travellers was obtained and a doctor called, but life was found to be extinct. Junor says that Cameron and lie were the best of friends, and he hit Cameron only in self defence. The deceased was about 40 years of age, and married.
