INSURANCE TEST CASE.
VAST SUMS INVOLVED. ECHO OF SMYRNA FIRE. (Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.10 a.m.) London, December 1. An important test case arising out •of the great fire in Smyrna on September, 1922, and involving a vast :sum of money, was begun in the Commercial Court at London. The plaintiffs, the American 'tobacco Company, claimed to recover insurance on property destroved by the lire from the Guardian Assurance Company. The liability of a number of other insurance companies to pay insurances on other destroyed property will depend on the .judgment in this case. Plaintiffs counsel said the issue was whether the fire was accidental or came within the exceptions of fire policies, whereon the action was brought. Plaintiffs’ case was that the fire was accidental. The hearing was adjourned.
