The Waipa Post states that the Railway Department is negotiating for a, block of 30 acres of land! for building houses for the railway staff. If a site can be obtained at a reasonablt price some houses will be built at once. “Ward government means bad government,” was a statement made by Mr M. Luckie, at a sitting of a Commission at Upper Hutt the other day. Sir Joseph Ward, who was present, joined in the laughter occasioned by the unconscious humour of the remark, which liad reference to the system of dividing boroughs for wards for the purpose of local government, and not the merits of a leader of a Parliamentary party.
