PAEMAKO NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.) The second social organised by Mrs Ohurcher, to raise funds for the proposed now Catholic Church in Pio Pio, was held on Saturday, 24th insfc., at the school. There was a large company present, including many visitors from Pio Pio. A lengthy dance programme was provided, and capital music rendered by Messrs Topp, Monaghan, and Huia. Vocal items by Mr and Mrs Mcßurnie afforded welcome variety to the programme. Eight couples entered for the waltz competition, which was closely contested. The judges finally decided in favour of Mr Esben Mortensen and Miss N. Slines (Ist prize), and Mr Trevor Mortensen and Miss McDonald (2nd prize). The Paemako school children Who entered for the competitions at the Pio Pio Flower Show on Thursday week, achieved great success, obtaining eight first prizes and five second prizes in the ten items for which they entered. Handwriting (Stds. 3 and 4) : Keith Watson 1, Leslie Anderson 2. Handwriting (Stds. 1 and 2) : May Monaghan 1, Raymond Evans 2. The prizewinning work was exhibited at the school during Saturday’s social and was greatly admired by all.
