ALLEGED FORGERY.
£64 INVOLVED. ARIA MAN CHARGED. A man named Edward Waleb, labourer, Aria, appeared before Mr E. W. Burton, S.M., on Saturday, on five charges of forging and uttering cheques for £64 odd, drawn on Peter Begglin farmer, Totara road, Aria, on April 29tb. Sergeant Mathew, in outlining the case, stated that th<? defendant was working for Hegglin at Aria. At that time, Hegglin missed a cheque book. Two of tbe cheques mentioned in the charge were taken from the book; two others were taken from Mr Mowlera's storekeeper, Aria, and another from the Bank of New Zealand, Te Kuiti. It would be proved that all the cheques were forgeries for various sums, and cashed at Burley's, at Green and Colebrook's Pio Pio branch, at Ogier's, and at the Bank of New Zealand. Lengthy evidence was given.
On one charge, defendant pleaded guilty, and was remanded to tha Hamilton Supreme Court for sentence. On the others he was committed for tri9l at Hamilton.
