TE KUITI POST OFFICE.
UPWARD MOVE.
INCREASE OF BUSINESS. Under the newly issued; classification, many changes have taken place in the Post and Telegraph Department. Not ortlr do a number of office* rise in status, but a very targe number of officers receive increased s-ataries. Until lately the Te Kuiti office was. in class 5, with Taumarunur. Stratford, EJtham. Rotorua, etc, but is now higher tip. The aetnaf method of grading has been abolished, but TeKoiti has gone up to the equivalent of class J„ which included Hamilton. Hastings. Masterton, etc. So far as Te Kuiti is concerned. the change means the recognition by the Department of the iramensty increased amount of work transacted by the local office. It may not be generally known to the public, but the authi>rities are m habit of taking the' business- done flap a post office,, such as telegrams forwarded and received, stamp* sold. letters posted, money order and savings bank business transacted. etc.. as an unfailing criterion of the progress or otherwise a place is making. Judged by this test. Te Kuiti is forging ahead with remarkable rapidity. No doubt the facta that the King Country does not suffer from droughts and contains practically the only remaining cheap land in the Dominion, which has led to an enormous influx of new settlers into the district. particularly within the last few months, are responsible for greatly increased postal and telegraphic figures. Toe higher rates of pay make the service more attractive to young people desirous of choosing a career.
