PERSONAL.
Dr. Monk, the District Health Officer, was in Te Kuiti this week, and stayed at the Commercial Hotel. Judge McCormack, of the Native Land Court, is presiding over a sitting in the Courthouse to-day. The death is announced by cable of Sir Henry Briggs, president of the South Australian Legislative Council. Mr H. E. Holland, M.P. for Grey, was in Te Kuiti last night. Mr D. J. Young, formerly a Te Kuiti business man and borough councillor, who is now living in Epsom, is spending a week in Te Kuiti. Senior-Sgt. Eccles, who was formerly stationed in Te Kuiti, is attending the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-day. He was in Te Kuiti on Saturday, and received a warm welcome from his old friends.
Mrs W. T. Jennings, wife of the member for the district, is again seriously ill. Mr Dinnie, resident engineer of the Public Works Department, was in Te Kuiti on Saturday. Cable advice has been received that Lieut. G. C. Hitchcock and Lieut. S. A. Power, of Te Kuiti, are returning by the Tahiti, which is due on July I6th.
Mr C. H. Fleming, Auckland manager of the N.Z. Express Co., arrived in Te Kuiti last night. He will be here for a couple of days. Mr J. A. Arkle, of the Te Kuiti Magistrate Court's staff, has been absent through illness for the greater part of last week. Mr G. R. Dansey, who is away with the expeditionary force, has been appointed senior clerk at the Te Kuiti post office. Mr A. W. P. Hewitt, relieving postmaster, has been appointed postmaster, Taumarunui, vice Mr G. W. Woods, who has been transferred to Pahiatua.
