ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS.
Ihe Editor. Sir,—ln reading the report of the Boroogb Council's meeting in the last isaoe of your paper. I notice Cr Nicholls state*, as a sort of an apology for the council doing its own work, that the local electrical engineers were charging £3 10a per point, and that it was necessary for the borough to do its own work, to enable it to get more consumers. I think Cr Nicholls, before making tucb a statement, should have acquainted himself with the facts. To my knowledge, prices never went to such a figure, and even if they did, it was not too much, as the cost of material has been prohibitive during the last twelve months. As showing the difference between the cost of material three months ago and now, conduit has dropped 160 per cent., and wire 100 per cent., the last drop taking place a fortnight ago. Since then local engineers bive not been asked for quotations Let me tell Cr Nicholls that more profit was made out of the necessaries of life during the war, tban out of electrics! material*. It may also be news to Cr Nicholls that local engineers are further handicapped by having to pay a license fee to the Borough Council of 20s, to enable them to do any electrical work at all —I am, etc., WM. IscRAE, SENft.
