LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A ramblers' gathering will be held to-day, meeting at the King street bridge at 2 o'clock, journeying to Mr Walker's farm and returning to town about 5 o'clock, when the members will bs the guests of the committee. This should be a welcome innovation, and doubtless will get good support from the young men of the town.

Interviewed by a Chronicle repre- ! sentative yesterday, Mr G. Steadman, Mayor of Taumarunui, suggest- ! Ed a conference between representaI tives of the three towns, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti and Otorohanga, at an early date with a view to arranging joint action in connection with the problem of the native leased. Arrangements are being made for a bi-weekly mail service to Marokopa via Waitomo Caves and the Mangapohue road, the matter of guarantee having been satisfactorily settled by residents of Kawhia South. A connection between Te Anga and Kinohaku will afford a better mail service between Kawhia and Marokopa, obviating the long and circuitous route now adopted.
At the Returned Soldiers' ball on Thursday night, the Borough electrician, Mr. Muir, produced the most pleasing effects by his artistic and skilful arrangement of coloured electric lights. The dancers were delighted with the display, and Mr. Muir is to be congratulated on the success that attended his efforts. This week's issue of the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic Review would be hard to beat for the excellence and variety of its pictures. These include a fine photograph of the distinguished aviator, Hawker, principal events at the Wanganui Jockey Club's meeting, the New Zealand League representative football touring team, winners at the Otago Rifle Association's annual meeting, competitors at the Forbury Park trots, candidates in preparation for the Ellerslie gathering, and a series of views depicting unusual happenings at Home.
We regret to announce that Nurse Waller, a highly respected and well known resident of Te Kuiti, passed away on Thursday night at the Hamilton Hospital. Nurse Waller never recovered from a severe attack of influenza contracted some time ago, and subsequently developed pleurisy and pneumonia, and was taken to the Hospital five weeks ago. She leaves five daughters and two sons, to whom the deep sympathy of numerous friends and acquaintances will be extended.
