iff Own Correspondent. The social and danco organised by the local Comedy Company, in aid of the Huntly Mining Disaster Fund, eventuated on Wednesday evening of last week in the hall. The gloomy ap pearance of the weather during the day gave to many minds an opinion of uncertainty regarding the success of the evening's entertainment. But throughout the day the threatening blackened masses were dispersed. Though the evening was dark, a large number put in an appearance and at 9 o'clock dancing commenced. An excellent supper, provided by the ladies of the district, was served round during the evening, and greatly appreciated. Ths enjoyment of the evening was ' augmented by vocal items rendered by Miss E. Armstrong, and Messrs A. H. Armstrong, C. Thrush and B. W. Thrush. After Mr C. Thrush, on behalf. of the Comedy Company, extended thanks to all those who were in attendance, and who had helped by their support to strengthen the purpose of the social. The takings at the door amounted to £3, and he emphasised the fact that though this appeared small, it was / whole-heart-edly given in the cause of humanity; and he hoped that our efforts would accomplish something in the consolation and uplifting ot those who have been so forcibly and sadly stricken by tha awful disaster. Mr Thrush specially thanked the ladies for their no small share in the arrangements of the evening 'by providing oj! supper; also to the musicians i ! or their services. Dancing till tba wee ema' hours, eventually breaking up about 1.45 a.m. Messrs A. Andresen, accordeon, and M. Andresan, violin, provided the music, while Mr E. Laraen played an extra. After the singing of the National Anthem the company dispersed, and an enjoyable and successful evening was brought to a close.
